حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ الْعَلَّافُ الْمِصْرِيُّ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ أَنَا نَافِعُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ثنا أَبُو مَرْحُومٍ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ مُعَاذِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ
أَنَّ رَجُلًا جَاءَ إِلَى مَجْلِسٍ وَفِيهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامَ وَقَالَ «عَشْرُ حَسَنَاتٍ» ثُمَّ أَتَى آخَرُ فَقَالَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ فَقَالَ «عِشْرُونَ» ثُمَّ أَتَى آخَرُ فَقَالَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ فَقَالَ «أَرْبَعُونَ» وَقَالَ «هَكَذَا يَكُونُ الْفَضْلُ»

✧ A man came to a gathering in which the Prophet ﷺ was present and said: "Al-salām ʿalaykum." He replied to his greeting and said: "Ten good deeds." Then another came and said: "Al-salām ʿalaykum wa raḥmatullāh." He said: "Twenty." Then another came and said: "Al-salām ʿalaykum wa raḥmatullāh wa barakātuh." He said: "Forty." And he said: "This is how the merit increases."
