حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ثنا عُمَرُ بْنُ ذَرٍّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبِي يَذْكُرُ عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ قَالَ
قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ إِنَّهُ لَيَعْرِضُ فِي صَدْرِي الشَّيْءُ لِأَنْ أَكُونَ حُمَمَةً أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ أَنْ أَتَكَلَّمَ بِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ قَدْ أَيِسَ مِنْ أَنْ يُعْبَدَ بِأَرْضِي هَذِهِ وَلَكِنَّهُ قَدْ رَضِيَ بِالْمُحَقَّرَاتِ مِنْ أَعْمَالِكُمْ»

✧ I said: 'O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, by the One Who sent you with the truth, something arises in my chest such that being a burnt coal is dearer to me than speaking of it.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Praise be to Allah. Satan has despaired of being worshipped in this land of mine, but he is content with the trivial acts among your deeds.'
