حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ الصَّبَّاحِ الرَّقِّيُّ ثنا سَعْدُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ الْكُوفِيُّ ثنا شَيْبَانُ أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ قَالَ
صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَاةً يَوْمًا أَطَالَ قِيَامَهَا وَرُكُوعَهَا وَسُجُودَهَا فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لَقَدْ صَلَّيْتَ صَلَاةً أَطَلْتَ قِيَامَهَا وَرُكُوعَهَا وَسُجُودَهَا فَقَالَ «إِنَّهَا كَانَتْ صَلَاةَ رَغِبٍ وَرَهَبٍ إِنِّي سَأَلْتُ رَبِّي فِيهَا ثَلَاثًا فَأَعْطَانِيَ اثْنَتَيْنِ وَزَوَى عَنِّي وَاحِدَةً سَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ لَا يُسَلَّطَ عَلَى أُمَّتِي عَدُوًّا مِنْ غَيْرِهِمْ فَيَجْتَاحَهُمْ فَأَعْطَانِيهَا وَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ لَا يُسَلَّطَ عَلَيْهِمْ سَنَةً فَيُهْلِكَهُمْ جُوعًا فَأَعْطَانِيهَا وَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ لَا يَجْعَلَ بَأْسَهُمْ بَيْنَهُمْ فَمَنَعَنِيهَا وَزَوَى عَنِّي»
Translation

✧ One day the Messenger of God ﷺ performed a prayer and lengthened its standing, its bowing, and its prostrations. When he finished, I said, 'O Messenger of God, you performed a prayer and lengthened its standing, its bowing, and its prostrations.' He said, 'It was a prayer of hope and fear. I asked my Lord in it for three things, and He gave me two and withheld one from me. I asked Him not to set over my community an enemy from other than them who would uproot them, and He granted me that. I asked Him not to set over them a drought year that would destroy them with hunger, and He granted me that. I asked Him not to make their violence among themselves, but He withheld that from me and kept it away from me.'
