حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ثنا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ قَالَ
كُنْتُ رَدِيفَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ لِي «يَا مُعَاذُ تَدْرِي مَا حَقُّ اللهِ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ؟» قُلْتُ اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ «حَقُّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ أَنْ يَعْبُدُوهُ وَلَا يُشْرِكُوا بِهِ شَيْئًا» ثُمَّ قَالَ «تَدْرِي مَا حَقُّهُمْ عَلَيْهِ إِذَا فَعَلُوا ذَلِكَ؟» قُلْتُ اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ «حَقُّهُمْ عَلَيْهِ أَنْ لَا يُعَذِّبَهُمْ»

✧ I was riding behind the Prophet ﷺ, and he said to me, “O Mu'adh, do you know what Allah's right upon His servants is?” I said, “Allah and His Messenger know best.” He said, “His right upon them is that they worship Him and associate nothing with Him.” Then he said, “Do you know what their right upon Him is if they do that?” I said, “Allah and His Messenger know best.” He said, “Their right upon Him is that He will not punish them.”
