حَدَّثَنَا إِدْرِيسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْكَرِيمِ الْحَدَّادُ ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ثنا أَبِي عَنِ الْمُثَنَّى بْنِ الصَّبَّاحِ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ قَالَ
كُنْتُ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَذَكَرُوا رَجُلًا عِنْدَهُ فَقَالُوا مَا أَعْجَزَهُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «اغْتَبْتُمْ أَخَاكُمْ» قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قُلْنَا مَا فِيهِ قَالَ «إِنْ قُلْتُمْ مَا لَيْسَ فِيهِ فَقَدْ بَهَتُّمُوهُ»

✧ I was with the Prophet ﷺ when they mentioned a man who was with him, and they said: "How incapable he is!" The Prophet ﷺ said: "You have backbitten your brother." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, we said what is in him." He said: "If you said what is not in him, then you would have slandered him."
