حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ أَبُو مَعْمَرٍ الْقَطِيعِيُّ ثنا هُشَيْمٌ أَنَا خَالِدٌ الْحَذَّاءُ عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ النَّهْدِيِّ
أَنَّ سَاحِرًا كَانَ يَلْعَبُ عِنْدَ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ فَكَانَ يَأْخُذُ السَّيْفَ وَيَذْبَحُ نَفْسَهُ وَيَعْمَلُ كَذَا وَلَا يَضُرُّهُ «فَقَامَ جُنْدُبٌ إِلَى السَّيْفِ فَأَخَذَهُ فَضَرَبَ عُنُقَهُ» ثُمَّ قَرَأَ {أَفَتَأْتُونَ السِّحْرَ وَأَنْتُمْ تُبْصِرُونَ}

✧ A magician was performing before al-Walid b. 'Uqbah; he would take a sword and slaughter himself and do such-and-such, and it would not harm him. Jundub then rose to the sword, took it, and struck his neck. Then he recited: "Will you then come to magic while you see plainly?"
