حَدَّثَنَا الْمِقْدَامُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ ثنا أَسَدُ بْنُ مُوسَى ثنا عَدِيُّ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ عَنْ بَهْزِ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ
سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ كَانَ عَبْدٌ مِنْ عَبَّادِ اللهِ آتَاهُ اللهُ مَالًا وَوَلَدًا فَذَهَبَ مِنْ عُمُرِهِ عُمُرٌ وَبَقِيَ عُمُرٌ فَقَالَ لِبَنِيهِ أَيَّ أَبٍ كُنْتُ لَكُمْ؟ قَالُوا خَيْرَ أَبٍ قَالَ إِنِّي وَاللهِ مَا أَنَا بِتَارِكٍ عِنْدَ أَحَدٍ مَالًا كَانَ مِنِّي إِلَيْهِ إِلَّا أَخَذْتُهُ أَوْ تَفْعَلُوا بِي مَا أَقُولُ لَكُمْ فَأَخَذَ مِنْهُمْ مِيثَاقًا قَالَ إِمَّا لَا فَانْظُرُوا إِذَا أَنَا مُتُّ فَأَحْرِقُونِي بِالنَّارِ ثُمَّ اسْحَقُونِي ثُمَّ انْظُرُوا يَوْمًا ذَا رِيحٍ فَأَذْرُونِي لَعَلِّي أَضَلُّ اللهَ قَالَ فَدُعِيَ فَاجْتَمَعَ فَقِيلَ لَهُ مَا حَمَلَكَ عَلَى مَا صَنَعْتَ؟ قَالَ خَشِيتُ عَذَابَكَ قَالَ اسْتَقْبِلْ ذَاهِبًا فَتِيبَ عَلَيْهِ
Translation

✧ I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: There was a servant among the servants of Allah to whom Allah gave wealth and children. A portion of his life passed, and a portion remained. He said to his sons: “What kind of father have I been to you?” They said: “The best of fathers.” He said: “By Allah, I will not leave with anyone any wealth that came from me to him, except that I will take it back—or you will do to me what I say to you.” So he took a covenant from them. He said: “If not, then when I die, burn me with fire, then crush me, then look for a windy day and scatter me, that perhaps I may elude Allah.” He said: So he was summoned and gathered, and it was said to him: “What made you do what you did?” He said: “I feared Your punishment.” He said: “Go forth, for you have been forgiven.”
