حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ثنا مُسَدَّدٌ قَالَا ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ حَجَّاجٍ الصَّوَّافِ حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ عَنْ هِلَالِ بْنِ أَبِي مَيْمُونَةَ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ قَالَ
قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّا قَوْمٌ حَدِيثُ عَهْدٍ بِالْجَاهِلِيَّةِ وَقَدْ جَاءَ اللهُ بِالْإِسْلَامِ وَمِنَّا رِجَالٌ يَأْتُونَ الْكُهَّانَ قَالَ «فَلَا تَأْتُوهُمْ» قُلْتُ وَمِنَّا رِجَالٌ يَتَطَيَّرُونَ قَالَ «ذَاكَ شَيْءٌ يَجِدُونَهُ فِي صُدُورِهِمْ فَلَا يَضُرُّهُمْ» قُلْتُ وَمِنَّا رِجَالٌ يَخُطُّونَ قَالَ «كَانَ نَبِيٌّ مِنَ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ يَخُطُّ فَمَنْ وَافَقَ خَطَّهُ فَذَاكَ»

✧ I said: O Messenger of God, we are a people who have only recently left the pre-Islamic era, and God has brought Islam, and among us are men who go to soothsayers. He said: "Do not go to them." I said: And among us are men who practice tiyara. He said: "That is something they find in their chests, so it will not harm them." I said: And among us are men who draw lines. He said: "A prophet among the prophets used to draw lines, so whoever's line coincides with his, that is it."
