حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الدِّمَشْقِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ الصُّورِيُّ ثنا خَالِدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ بْنِ صُبَيْحٍ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ

أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَبْعَثُ حَرَسًا مِنْ حَرَسِهِ إِلَيَّ كَنَاكِرُونَ كُبَّةٍ وَقَرُوا يَقُولُ «إِنَّ هَذَا يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ وَكَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَصُومُهُ وَنَحْنُ صَائِمُونَ فَمَنْ أَحَبَّ أَنْ يَصُومَهُ فَلْيَصُمْهُ»

✧ He used to send a guard from his guards to me, like the guards of Kūbah and Qarū, saying: “Indeed, this is the day of ʿĀshūrāʾ. The Prophet ﷺ used to fast it, and we are fasting. So whoever wishes to fast it, let him fast.”
