حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ الدِّمْيَاطِيُّ ثنا شُعَيْبُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ثنا عَبْدُ الْجَبَّارِ بْنُ عُمَرَ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ قَارِظٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ وَذَكَرَ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ فَقَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ كُنَّا نَصُومُهُ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَفَرَضَ اللهُ عَلَيْنَا صِيَامَ رَمَضَانَ فَوَضَعَ عَنَّا صِيَامَ عَاشُورَاءَ فَمَنْ شَاءَ صَامَهُ وَمَنْ شَاءَ أَفْطَرَهُ»

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ said: 'Indeed, on the day of 'Ashura' we used to fast it in the pre-Islamic era, then God prescribed for us the fasting of Ramadan, and removed from us the fasting of 'Ashura', so whoever wishes may fast it and whoever wishes may break his fast.'
