حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ الدِّمْيَاطِيُّ ثنا شُعَيْبُ بْنُ يَحْيَى التُّجِيبِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ الْجَبَّارِ بْنُ عُمَرَ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ قَارِظٍ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ وَهُوَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ بِالْمَدِينَةِ يَقُولُ «يَا أَهْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ أَيْنَ فُقَهَاؤُكُمْ؟ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ» يَنْهَى عَنْ مِثْلِ هَذِهِ الْقُصَّةِ « وَوَضَعَهَا عَلَى رَأْسِهِ فَلَمْ أَرَهَا عَلَى عَرُوسٍ وَلَا عَلَى غَيْرِهَا أَجْمَلَ مِنْهَا عَلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ»

✧ I heard Mu'awiyah while he was on the minbar in Madinah saying: 'O people of Madinah, where are your jurists? I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ forbid the like of this forelock'—and he placed it on his head, and I did not see it on a bride nor on anyone else more beautiful than it was on Mu'awiyah.
