حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ثنا مُسَدَّدٌ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَجْلَانَ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَعْبٍ الْقُرَظِيُّ قَالَ
سَمِعْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ يَخْطُبُ بِالْمَدِينَةِ يَقُولُ لَتَعْلَمُنَّ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ أَنَّهُ لَا مَانِعَ لِمَا أَعْطَى اللهُ وَلَا مُعْطِيَ لِمَا مَنَعَ اللهُ وَلَا يَنْفَعُ ذَا الْجَدِّ مِنْهُ الْجَدُّ مَنْ يُرِدِ اللهُ بِهِ خَيْرًا يُفَقِّهْهُ فِي الدِّينِ سَمِعْتُ هَذِهِ الْأَحْرُفَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى هَذِهِ الْأَعْوَادِ

✧ I heard Muʿāwiyah b. Abī Sufyān delivering a sermon in Madinah, saying: You will certainly know, O people, that there is none to withhold what Allah gives, and none to give what Allah withholds, and no one possessed of fortune benefits from his fortune before Him. Whomever Allah intends good for, He gives him understanding in religion. I heard these words from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on these wooden planks.
