حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ وَأَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ قَالَا
ثنا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ عَنْ مَالِكٍ وَحَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ أَنَا مَالِكٌ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو يَزِيدَ الْقَرَاطِيسِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَكَمِ أَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ عَامَ حَجَّ وَهُوَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ يَقُولُ يَا أَهْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ أَيْنَ عُلَمَاؤُكُمْ؟ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِنَّ» هَذَا الْيَوْمَ يَوْمُ عَاشُورَاءَ وَلَمْ يُكْتَبْ عَلَيْكُمْ صِيَامُهُ وَأَنَا صَائِمٌ فَمَنْ شَاءَ فَلْيَصُمْ وَمَنْ شَاءَ فَلْيُفْطِرْ

✧ Al-Qaʿnabī narrated to us from Mālik, and Bakr b. Sahl narrated to us: ʿAbdullāh b. Yūsuf narrated to us: Mālik informed us; ḥ, and Abū Yazīd al-Qarāṭīsī narrated to us: ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAbd al-Ḥakam narrated to us: Mālik informed us, from Ibn Shihāb, from Ḥumayd b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, that he heard Muʿāwiyah on the day of ʿĀshūrāʾ in the year of his ḥajj while he was on the pulpit, saying: "O people of Madinah, where are your scholars? I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'This day is the day of ʿĀshūrāʾ. Its fasting has not been prescribed for you, but I am fasting. Whoever wishes, let him fast, and whoever wishes, let him break his fast.'"
