✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ went out at an hour when he did not usually go out and when no one would meet him. Abū Bakr came to him, and he said, "What brought you out, O Abū Bakr?" He said, "I went out to the Messenger of God ﷺ to look at his face and greet him." Before long, ʿUmar came, and he said, "What brought you out, O ʿUmar?" He said, "Hunger." He said, "And I have felt some of what you feel. Come with us to Abū al-Haytham b. al-Tayhān al-Anṣārī." He was a man with many horses and sheep, but he had no servant. They went to him and did not find him, but found his wife. He said, "Where is your companion?" She said, "He went out early to fetch fresh water from the canal of Banū So-and-so." Before long, he came with a water-skin and set it down. Then he came to the Messenger of God ﷺ, embracing him and ransoming him with his father and mother. He took them to the shade of his garden and spread a mat for them. Then he went to a palm tree and brought a cluster. The Messenger of God ﷺ said, "Why did you not pick out its fresh dates?" He said, "I wanted you to enjoy its fresh and unripe dates." They ate and drank from that water. When the Messenger of God ﷺ finished, he said, "By the One in whose hand is my soul, this is among the blessings about which you will be questioned on the Day of Resurrection: this cool shade, the fresh dates, and the water." He said, "Go and prepare food for them." The Messenger of God ﷺ said, "Do not slaughter a milking animal." He slaughtered a young she-goat or a kid for them, then came to them and they ate.
