Chain of narrators
- Abū Usāmah al-Ḥalabī
✧ He heard Abu Ruham, who was one of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who pledged allegiance under the tree, say: I went on the expedition to Tabuk with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When he returned, he traveled at night through al-Akhdar, and I rode close to him. Drowsiness was cast upon us, and I kept waking and finding my mount near his mount, and its closeness alarmed me until I feared striking his foot in the stirrup, so I held my mount back. This continued until part of the night had passed, when sleep overcame my eyes and my mount jostled against the mount of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the stirrup and struck his foot. I did not wake except at his saying, 'Hass.' I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, seek forgiveness for me.' He said, 'Move on.' The Prophet ﷺ then began asking me about those who had stayed behind from Banu Ghifar, and I informed him. He asked me, 'What happened to the group of reddish, tall, hairless ones?' I told him that they had stayed behind. Then he said, 'What happened to the dark-complexioned, short, curly-haired ones who have livestock with branded young she-camels?' The narrator said: I tried to remember among Banu Ghifar, but I could not recall them until I remembered that they were a group from Aslam who had stayed behind. They had been allies among us. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'What prevents any one of those, when he stays behind, from carrying an active man on one of his camels in the path of Allah? Indeed, the dearest of my people to me that they should not stay behind from me are the Emigrants from Quraysh, the Ansar, Aslam, and Ghifar.' Muhammad b. Ishaq narrated it from al-Zuhri, and between the nephew of Abu Ruham and Ibn Ukaymah there is a connection.
