حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَامِرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ النَّحْوِيُّ الصُّورِيُّ ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ ثنا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ عِيسَى بْنِ مُوسَى عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ رُوَيْمٍ اللَّخْمِيِّ ثنا أَبُو مِسْكِينٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنْ كَعْبِ بْنِ عُجْرَة قَالَ

جَلَسْنَا يَوْمًا أَمَامَ بُيُوتِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فِي رَهْطٍ مِنَّا مَعَاشِرَ الْأَنْصَارِ وَرَهْطٍ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ وَرَهْطٍ مِنْ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ فَاخْتَصَمْنَا فِي رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَيُّنَا أَوْلَى بِهِ وَأَحَبُّ إِلَيْهِ؟ قُلْنَا نَحْنُ مَعَاشِرَ الْأَنْصَارِ آمَنَّا بِهِ وَاتَّبَعْنَاهُ وَقَاتَلْنَا مَعَهُ وَكَتِيبَتُهُ فِي نَحَرِ عَدُوِّهِ فَنَحْنُ أَوْلَى بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَحَبَّهُمْ إِلَيْهِ وَقَالَ إِخْوَانُنَا الْمُهَاجِرُونُ نَحْنُ الَّذِينَ هَاجَرْنَا إِلَى اللهِ وَرَسُولِهِ فَارَقْنَا الْعَشَائِرَ وَالْأَهْلِينَ وَالْأَمْوَالَ وَقَدْ حَضَرْنَا مَا حَضَرْتُمْ وَشَهِدْنَا مَا شَهِدْتُمْ فَنَحْنُ أَوْلَى النَّاسِ بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَحَبُّهُمْ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ إِخْوَانُنَا مِنْ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ نَحْنُ عَشِيرَةُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَدْ حَضَرْنَا الَّذِي حَضَرْتُمْ وَشَهِدْنَا الَّذِي شَهِدْتُمْ فَنَحْنُ أَوْلَى بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَحَبُّهُمْ إِلَيْهِ فَخَرَجَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَقْبَلَ عَلَيْنَا فَقَالَ «إِنَّكُمْ لَتَقُولُونَ شَيْئًا» فَقُلْنَا مِثْلَ مَقَالَتِنَا فَقَالَ لِلْأَنْصَارِ «صَدَقْتُمْ مَنْ يَرُدُّ هَذَا عَلَيْكُمْ» وَأَخْبَرْنَاهُ بِمَا قَالَ إِخْوَانُنَا الْمُهَاجِرُونَ فَقَالَ «صَدَقُوا وَبَرُّوا مَنْ يَرُدُّ هَذَا عَلَيْهِمْ» وَأَخْبَرْنَاهُ بِمَا قَالَ بَنُو هَاشِمٍ فَقَالَ «صَدَقُوا وَبَرُّوا مَنْ يَرُدُّ هَذَا عَلَيْهِمْ» ثُمَّ قَالَ «أَلَا أَقْضِي بَيْنَكُمْ؟» قُلْنَا بَلَى بِأَبِينَا وَأُمِّنَّا أَنْتَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَقَالَ «أَمَّا أَنْتُمْ يَا مَعْشَرَ الْأَنْصَارِ فَإِنَّمَا أَنَا أَخُوكُمْ» فَقَالُوا اللهُ أَكْبَرُ ذَهَبْنَا بِهِ وَرَبِّ الْكَعْبَةِ «وَأَمَّا أَنْتُمْ مَعْشَرَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ فَإِنَّمَا أَنَا مِنْكُمْ» فَقَالُوا اللهُ أَكْبَرُ ذَهَبْنَا بِهِ وَرَبِّ الْكَعْبَةِ «وَأَمَّا أَنْتُمْ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ فَأَنْتُمْ مِنِّي وَإِلَيَّ» فَقُمْنَا وَكُلُّنَا رَاضٍ مُغْتَبِطٌ بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ

✧ One day we sat in front of the dwellings of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the mosque, among us a group of the Ansar, a group of the Muhajirun, and a group of Banu Hashim. We disputed about the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: which of us was closer to him and more beloved to him? We, the Ansar, said: 'We believed in him, followed him, fought alongside him, and his battalion was at the forefront of the enemy, so we are closer to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and more beloved to him.' Our brothers, the Muhajirun, said: 'We are the ones who emigrated to Allah and His Messenger, leaving behind our tribes, families, and properties. We witnessed what you witnessed and were present at what you were present at, so we are closer to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and more beloved to him.' Our brothers from Banu Hashim said: 'We are the clan of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. We witnessed what you witnessed and were present at what you were present at, so we are closer to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and more beloved to him.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to us, turned to us, and said: 'You are certainly saying something.' We told him what we had said. He said to the Ansar: 'You have spoken the truth. Who can dispute this with you?' We informed him of what our brothers, the Muhajirun, had said. He said: 'They have spoken the truth and been dutiful. Who can dispute this with them?' We informed him of what Banu Hashim had said. He said: 'They have spoken the truth and been dutiful. Who can dispute this with them?' Then he said: 'Shall I not judge between you?' We said: 'Yes, by our fathers and mothers, you, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'As for you, O Ansar, I am your brother.' They said: 'Allah is Greatest! We have won him, by the Lord of the Ka'bah.' 'As for you, O Muhajirun, I am one of you.' They said: 'Allah is Greatest! We have won him, by the Lord of the Ka'bah.' 'As for you, Banu Hashim, you are from me and to me.' We all arose pleased and delighted with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
