حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْأَسْفَاطِيُّ ثنا خَالِدُ بْنُ يَزْيَدٍ الْعُمَرِيُّ ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ طَلْحَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَنْ طَلَبَ الْعِلْمَ لِإِحْدَى ثَلَاثٍ يُمَارِي بِهِ السُّفَهَاءَ أَوْ يُبَاهِي بِهِ الْعُلَمَاءَ أَوْ يَسْتَجِيرُ وُجُوهَ النَّاسِ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ فِيهِ كَلَامًا شَدِيدًا

Translation

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "Whoever seeks knowledge for one of three things—to contend with fools by it, to boast with it before scholars, or to attract people’s attention to himself—" then he said concerning it harsh words.
