حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُعَافَى بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثنا زُهَيْرٌ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ

قِيلَ لِقُثَمَ بْنِ الْعَبَّاسِ كَيْفَ وَرِثَ عَلِيٌّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ دُونَكُمْ؟ قَالَ «إِنَّهُ كَانَ أَوَّلَنَا بِهِ لُحُوقًا وَأَشَدَّنَا بِهِ لُزُوقًا»

Translation

✧ It was said to Qutham b. al-Abbas: How did 'Ali inherit the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to your exclusion? He said: "He was the first of us to join him and the closest of us in attachment to him."
