✧ When the Prophet of God ﷺ sat, a group of his companions would sit with him. Among them was a man who had a small son who would come to him from behind his back and sit in front of him, until the boy died. The man then refrained from attending the circle, remembering God and grieving over him. The Prophet ﷺ missed him and said, “Why do I not see so-and-so?” They said, “O Messenger of God, his young son whom you saw has died, and that has kept him from attending the circle.” The Prophet ﷺ met him and asked about him, and was told that he had died. He consoled him, then said, “O so-and-so, which would you prefer: to enjoy him for your entire life, or that tomorrow you will not come to any gate of the gates of Paradise except that you find him already there ahead of you, opening it for you?” He said, “O Prophet of God, that he precedes me to the gates of Paradise and opens them for me is dearer to me.” He said, “That is yours.” A man from the Ansar stood up and said, “O Messenger of God, may God make me your ransom, is this for so-and-so specifically, or for every Muslim whose child has died as a forerunner?” He said, “Rather, for every Muslim whose child has died as a forerunner, that will be his.”
