✧ A bow was given to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he handed it to me on the day of Uhud. I shot with it in front of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ until it broke at its string notch. I remained at my post in front of the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, facing the arrows with my face. Whenever an arrow headed toward the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I tilted my head to shield the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ without shooting any arrow myself. The last of them was an arrow from which my eyeball protruded onto my cheek. The ranks dispersed, and I took my eyeball in my hand and hastened with it in my hand to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw it in my hand, his eyes shed tears, and he said: "O Allah, Qatādah has shielded the face of Your Prophet with his face, so make it the best of his two eyes and the sharpest in sight." So it became the best of his two eyes and the sharpest in sight.
