حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزِّنْبَاعِ رَوْحُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ ثَنَا حَامِدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الْبَلْخِيُّ ثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ثَنَا جَامِعُ بْنُ أَبِي رَاشِدٍ وَعَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ أَعْيَنَ وَعَاصِمُ ابْنُ بَهْدَلَةَ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ الرَّمَادِيُّ ثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ أَبِي النَّجُودِ وَجَامَعِ بْنِ أَبِي رَاشِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي غَرَزَةَ قَالَ

أَتَانَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَنَحْنُ نَتَبَايَعُ بِالْعَقِيقِ وَكُنَّا نُسَمَّى السَّمَاسِرَةَ فَسَمَّانَا بِاسْمٍ هُوَ أَحْسَنُ مِمَّا سَمَّيْنَا بِهِ أَنْفُسَنَا فَقَالَ «يَا مَعْشَرَ التُّجَّارِ إِنَّ هَذَا الْبَيْعَ يَحْضُرُهُ الْحَلِفُ وَالْكَذِبُ فَشُوبُوهُ بِشَيْءٍ مِنَ الصَّدَقَةِ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us while we were trading in al-ʿAqīq, and we used to be called brokers (al-samāsirah). He called us by a name that was better than what we called ourselves, and he said, “O company of merchants, indeed this selling is attended by swearing and lying, so mix it with some charity.”
