حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثَنَا عَارِمُ أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى وَيُوسُفُ الْقَاضِي قَالَا ثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ قَالَا ثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ عَاصِمِ ابْنِ بَهْدَلَةَ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي غَرَزَةَ قَالَ

خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَنَحْنُ نَتَبَايَعُ فِي السُّوقِ فَقَالَ «يَا مَعْشَرَ التُّجَّارِ» فَفَرِحَ الْقَوْمُ وَاشْرَأَبُّوا إِلَيْهِ وَكُنَّا نُدْعَى السَّمَاسِرَةَ فَكَانَ أَوَّلَ مَنْ سَمَّانَا بِالتُّجَّارِ وَقَالَ «إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ وَالإِثْمَ يَحْضُرَانِ الْبَيْعَ فَشُوبُوا بَيْعَكُمْ بِصَدَقَةٍ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to us while we were trading in the market, and he said, “O company of merchants.” The people rejoiced and craned their necks toward him. We used to be called brokers (al-samāsirah), and he was the first to call us merchants. He said, “Indeed the devil and sin attend the sale, so mix your selling with charity.”
