حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ ثَنَا حُصَيْنُ بْنُ نَمِرٍ ثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُخَيْمِرَةَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُرَحْبِيلَ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ قَالَ §أُمِرْنَا بِصَوْمِ عَاشُورَاءَ قَبْلَ
أَنْ يَنْزِلَ رَمَضَانُ فَلَمَّا نَزَلَ رَمَضَانُ لَمْ نُؤْمَرْ بِهِ وَلَمْ نُنْهَ عَنْهُ وَكُنَّا نَصُومُهُ وَأُمِرْنَا بِنِصْفِ صَاعٍ كُلُّ إِنْسَانٍ حُرٍّ وَعَبْدٍ صَغِيرٍ وَكَبِيرٍ أَو ذَكَرٍ أَو أُنْثَى فَلَمَّا نَزَلَتِ الزَّكَاةُ لَمْ نُؤْمَرْ بِهِ وَلَمْ نُنْهَ عَنْهُ وَكُنَّا نُخْرِجُهُ

✧ Before Ramaḍān was revealed, and when Ramaḍān was revealed, we were neither commanded nor forbidden from it, and we used to fast it. We were also commanded to give half a ṣāʿ for every person—free or slave, young or old, male or female. When the zakāt was revealed, we were neither commanded nor forbidden from it, and we used to give it.
