✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out with Abu Bakr, hiding from Quraysh, and they passed by a shepherd. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, “Is there a ewe that has been mounted by a ram?” He said, “No, but here is a ewe that hardship has left behind.” He said, “Bring it to me.” So he brought it to him, and he wiped its udder and prayed for blessing, then milked it and gave Abu Bakr to drink. Then he milked again and gave the shepherd to drink, then he milked and drank. The shepherd said, “By Allah, I have never seen the like of you. Who are you?” He said, “If I tell you, will you keep it secret from me?” He said, “Yes.” He said, “I am Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah.” He said, “Are you the one whom Quraysh claim is a Sabian?” He said, “They say that.” He said, “I bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah, and none but a messenger is able to do what you did.” Then he said, “Shall I follow you?” The Prophet ﷺ said, “Not today, but when you hear that we have prevailed, then come to us.” So he came to the Prophet ﷺ after he had become victorious in Madinah.
