حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ الْمَكِّيُّ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ أَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي الْفَيْضِ قَالَ
شَهِدْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ وَأَعْطَى الْمِقْدَادَ بْنَ الْأَسْوَدِ حِمَارًا فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ يُقَالُ لَهُ الْعِرْبَاضُ بْنُ سَارِيَةَ فَقَالَ «مَالَكَ أَنْ تَأْخُذَهُ وَمَا لِمُعَاوِيَةَ أَنْ يُعْطِيَكَ كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَيْكَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ تَحْمِلُهُ عَلَى عُنُقِكَ رَأْسُهُ أَسْفَلُهُ»

✧ I witnessed Mu'awiya give al-Miqdad b. al-Aswad a donkey. A man from the companions of the Prophet ﷺ called al-'Irbad b. Sariya stood up and said, "What is it to you that you take it, and what is it to Mu'awiya that he gives it to you? It is as if I can see you on the Day of Resurrection carrying it on your neck with its head downwards."
