حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ مَنْدَهَ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثنا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ مُجَمِّعٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ
مَشَيْتُ أَنَا وَفُلَانُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَعْطَيْتَ بَنِي الْمُطَّلِبِ وَتَرَكْتَنَا وَإِنَّمَا نَحْنُ وَهُمْ إِلَيْكَ بِمَنْزِلَةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «بَنُو هَاشِمٍ وَبَنُو الْمُطَّلِبِ شَيْءٌ وَاحِدٌ»

✧ I and so-and-so walked to the Prophet ﷺ. I said: “O Messenger of God, you gave to Banū al-Muṭṭalib and left us, although we and they are of the same status in relation to you.” The Prophet ﷺ said: “Banū Hāshim and Banū al-Muṭṭalib are one and the same.”
