حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ثنا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ ثنا مُبَارَكُ بْنُ فَضَالَةَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ

دَخَلْنَا عَلَى الْحَسَنِ فِي وَجَعِهِ الشَّدِيدِ الَّذِي أَصَابَهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ إِنِّي لَأَرْثِي لَكَ مِمَّا أَرَى فَقَالَ يَا أَخِي لَا تَفْعَلْ فَوَاللهِ إِنَّ أَحَبَّهُ إِلَيَّ أَحَبَّهُ إِلَى اللهِ وَقَدْ قَالَ {مَا أَصَابَكُمْ مِنْ مُصِيبَةٍ فَبِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَيَعْفُو عَنْ كَثِيرٍ} فَهَذَا مَا كَسَبْتُ بِأَيْدِي ثُمَّ يَأْتِينِي عَفُوُ رَبِّي ﷻ بَعْدُ فِيمَا بَقِيَ

Translation

✧ We entered upon al-Hasan during the severe pain that had afflicted him. A man said to him, 'I feel sorry for you for what I see.' He said, 'Brother, do not. By Allah, whatever is dearer to me is dearer to Allah. He said: {Whatever affliction befalls you is because of what your hands have earned, and He pardons much.} So this is what my hands have earned. Then afterward the pardon of my Lord ﷻ will come to me in what remains.'
