حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَوْفِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ
كُنَّا نَرْقِي فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَقُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ كَيْفَ تَرَى فِي ذَلِكَ؟ فَقَالَ «اعْرِضُوا عَلِيَّ رُقَاكُمْ لَا بَأْسَ بِالرُّقَى مَا لَمْ يَكُنْ شِرْكًا»

✧ We used to perform incantations in the pre-Islamic era, so we said: O Messenger of Allah, how do you regard that? He said: “Present your incantations to me. There is no harm in incantations as long as there is no polytheism in them.”
