✧ The Prophet ﷺ set out one day with me accompanying him until we entered the synagogue of the Jews on the day of their festival, and they disliked his entering upon them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “O company of Jews, show me twelve men among you who will testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; Allah will remove from every Jew under the canopy of the sky the wrath that is upon him.” They fell silent; no one answered him. Then he repeated it to them, and no one answered him. Then he said it a third time, and no one answered him. So he said: “You refuse. By Allah, I am the Hasher, and I am the Aqib, and I am the Muqaffi, whether you believe or you deny.” Then he departed with me, and when we were about to leave, a man called out from behind him and said: “Stay where you are, O Muhammad.” So he turned, and that man said: “Which man do you know among you, O company of Jews?” They said: “By Allah, we do not know any man among us more knowledgeable of the Book of Allah, nor more understanding, than you, nor than your father before you, nor than your grandfather before your father.” He said: “Then I testify to him by Allah that he is the Prophet of Allah whom you find in the Torah.” They said: “You have lied.” Then they replied to him and said evil things about him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “You have lied. We will never accept your word.” He said: Then we went out, and we were three: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, myself, and Ibn Sallam. And Allah, exalted be He, revealed: {Say, “Have you considered: if it is from Allah and you disbelieve in it, while a witness from the Children of Israel has testified to something similar and believed, and you are arrogant?” Indeed, Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.}
