حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَارُودِيُّ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ طَهْمَانَ عَنِ الْحَجَّاجِ بْنِ الْحَجَّاجِ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ عَنْ مَحْمُودٍ قَالَ
إِنَّ عِتْبَانَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ أُصِيبَ بَصَرُهُ فِي عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي لَا أَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ مَعَكَ فِي مَسْجِدِكِ وَإِنِّي أُحِبُّ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ مَعِيَ فِي مَسْجِدِي فَأَئْتَمَّ بِصَلَاتِكَ فَأَتَاهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَذَكَرُوا مَالِكَ بْنَ الدُّخْشُمِ فَقَالُوا ذَاكَ كَهْفُ الْمُنَافِقِينَ وَمَلْجَؤُهُمُ الَّذِينَ يَلْجَئُونَ إِلَيْهِ وَمَعْقَلُهُمْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَلَيْسَ يَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ؟» قَالُوا بَلَى وَلَا خَيْرَ فِي شَهَادَتِهِ فَقَالَ «لَا يَشْهَدُهَا عَبْدٌ صَادِقٌ مِنْ قَلْبِهِ فَيَمُوتُ إِلَّا حَرَّمَهُ اللهُ عَلَى النَّارِ»

✧ 'Itban b. Malik's eyesight was afflicted during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so he said: O Messenger of Allah, I am unable to pray with you in your mosque, and I would like you to pray with me in my mosque so that I may follow your prayer. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to him, and they mentioned Malik b. al-Dukhshum. They said: That is the cave of the hypocrites, their refuge to which they resort, and their stronghold. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Does he not testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger?" They said: Yes, but there is no good in his testimony. He said: "No servant testifies to it sincerely from his heart and then dies except that Allah forbids him from the Fire."
