حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الزِّئْبَقِيُّ وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ الْجَوْهَرِيُّ قَالَا ثنا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ يَحْيَى الْمُقْرِئُ ثنا الْأَصْمَعِيُّ ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ الشَّحَّامِ عَنْ أَبِي رَجَاءَ الْعُطَارِدِيِّ قَالَ الْأَصْمَعِيُّ وَهُوَ عِمْرَانُ بْنُ تَيْمٍ مَوْلًى لَهُمْ قَالَ قَالَ
الْعَدَّاءُ بْنُ خَالِدِ بْنِ هَوْذَةَ أَلَا أُقْرِئُكُمْ كِتَابًا كَتَبَهُ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ؟ قُلْنَا بَلَى فَإِذَا فِيهِ مَكْتُوبٌ «بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ هَذَا مَا اشْتَرَى الْعَدَّاءُ بْنُ خَالِدِ بْنِ هَوْذَةَ مِنْ مُحَمَّدٍ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ اشْتَرَى مِنْهُ عَبْدًا أَوْ أَمَةً شَكَّ عُثْمَانُ بِيَاعَةً أَوْ بَيْعَ الْمُسْلِمِ لَا دَاءَ وَلَا غَائِلَةَ وَلَا خِبْثَةَ» قَالَ الْأَصْمَعِيُّ سَأَلْتُ سَعِيدَ بْنَ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ عَنِ الْغَائِلَةِ فَقَالَ «الْأَبَاقُ وَالسَّرِقَةُ وَالزِّنَا» وَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْخِبْثَةِ قَالَ «بَيْعُ أَهْلِ عَهْدِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ»

✧ Al-ʿAddāʾ b. Khālid b. Hawdhah said, “Shall I read to you a document that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wrote for me?” We said, “Yes.” And in it was written: “In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. This is what al-ʿAddāʾ b. Khālid b. Hawdhah purchased from Muhammad the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He purchased from him a male slave—or a female slave (ʿUthmān was uncertain)—a sale of a Muslim: no disease, no defect, and no deceit.” Al-Aṣmaʿī said: I asked Saʿīd b. Abī ʿArūbah about al-ghāʾilah, and he said, “Running away, theft, and fornication.” I asked him about al-khibthah, and he said, “The sale of the people under covenant of the Muslims.”
