حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ ثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ قَالَا ثَنَا أَبُو خَالِدٍ الْأَحْمَرُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَجْلَانَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ قَالَ
بَيْنَمَا أَمْشِي مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِذْ قَالَ لِي «قُلْ يَا عُقْبَةُ» قُلْتُ لَهُ وَمَا أَقُولُ؟ ثُمَّ سَكَتَ عَنِّي قَالَ قُلْتُ فِي نَفْسِي لَئِنْ أَعَادَهَا عَلَيَّ لَأَقُولُ كَمَا قَالَ فَقَالَ لِي «قُلْ» فَقَرَأَ قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ حَتَّى فَرَغَ مِنْهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَا سَأَلَ سَائِلٌ وَمَا اسْتَعَاذَ مُسْتَعِيذٌ بِمِثْلِهَا»

✧ While I was walking with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he said to me: "Say, O ʿUqba." I said to him: What shall I say? Then he fell silent. He said: I said to myself, if he repeats it to me, I will say as he said. Then he said to me: "Say," and he recited, "Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of the daybreak" until he finished it. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "No one has asked and no one has sought refuge with the like of it."
