حَدَّثَنَا أَسْلَمُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ وَعَبْدَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ قَالَا ثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ يَحْيَى زَحْمَوَيْهِ ثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الْأَصَمُّ ثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ عَنْ أَوْسِ بْنِ ضَمْعَجٍ عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يَؤُمُّ الْقَوْمَ أَقْرَؤُهُمْ لِكِتَابِ اللهِ فَإِنْ كَانُوا فِي الْقِرَاءَةِ سَوَاءً فَأَعْلَمُهُمْ بِالسُّنَّةِ فَإِنْ كَانُوا فِي الْعِلْمِ سَوَاءً فَأَقْدَمُهُمْ هِجْرَةً فَإِنْ كَانُوا فِي الْهِجْرَةِ سَوَاءً فَأَقْدَمُهُمْ سِنًّا وَلَا يَؤُمُّ الرَّجُلُ الرَّجُلَ فِي سُلْطَانِهِ وَلَا يَقْعُدُ عَلَى تَكْرِمَتِهِ فِي بَيْتِهِ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The people should be led by the one who is most versed in the Book of Allah. If they are equal in recitation, then the one most knowledgeable of the Sunnah. If they are equal in knowledge, then the one who emigrated earliest. If they are equal in emigration, then the oldest of them. And no man should lead another in his domain, nor should he sit in his place of honor in his house except with his permission."
