حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ السَّدُوسِيُّ ثَنَا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ثَنَا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ رَجَاءٍ عَنْ أَوْسِ بْنِ ضَمْعَجٍ عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ
سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «يَؤُمُّ الْقَوْمَ أَقْرَؤُهُمْ لِكِتَابِ اللهِ فَإِنْ كَانُوا فِي الْقِرَاءَةِ سَوَاءً فَأَقْدَمُهُمْ هِجْرَةً فَإِنْ كَانُوا فِي الْهِجْرَةِ سَوَاءً فَأَقْدَمُهُمْ سِنًّا وَلَا يُؤَمَّنَّ الرَّجُلُ فِي سُلْطَانِهِ وَلَا فِي أَهْلِهِ وَلَا يُجْلَسُ عَلَى تَكْرِمَتِهِ إِلَّا أَنْ يَأْذَنَ لَهُ»

✧ I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "The people should be led by the one who is most versed in the Book of Allah. If they are equal in recitation, then the one who emigrated earliest. If they are equal in emigration, then the oldest of them. And no man should lead another in his domain or among his family, nor should one sit in his place of honor unless he permits him."
