حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ ثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ أَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ أَنَّ رَجُلًا قَالَ
يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إنِّي أُصَلِّي خَلْفَ فُلَانٍ وإنَّهُ يُطِيلُ الصَّلَاةَ فَرُبَّمَا تَأَخَّرْتُ فَغَضِبَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ غَضَبًا مَا رَأَيْتُهُ غَضِبَ فِي مَوْعِظَةٍ فَقَالَ «إِنَّ مِنْكُمْ مُنَفِّرِينَ مَنْ أَمَّ النَّاسَ فَلْيُخَفِّفْ بِهِمُ الصَّلَاةَ؛ فَإِنَّ فِيهِمُ الضَّعِيفَ وَالْكَبِيرَ وَذَا الْحَاجَةِ»

✧ "O Messenger of God, I pray behind so-and-so, and he lengthens the prayer, so sometimes I hold back." The Messenger of God ﷺ became angry such as I never saw him angry in an admonition, and he said: "Among you are those who drive people away. Whoever leads the people in prayer should lighten the prayer for them, for among them are the weak, the elderly, and the one with a need."
