حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ هَارُونَ ثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ رَاهَوَيْهِ أَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ عَنْ ثَوْرِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ أَبِي حُمَيْدٍ الرُّعَيْنِيِّ أَخْبَرَنِي يَزِيدُ ذُو مِصْرَ قَالَ
أَتَيْتُ عُتْبَةَ بْنَ عَبْدٍ السُّلَمِيَّ صَاحِبَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ يَا أَبَا الْوَلِيدِ إنِّي خَرَجْتُ ألْتَمِسُ الضَّحَايَا فَلَمْ أَجِدْ غَيْرَ ثَرْمَاءَ فَكَرِهْتُهَا فَمَا تَقُولُ؟ قَالَ ألَا جِئْتَنِي أُضَحِّي بِهَا؟ قُلْتُ سُبْحَانَ اللهِ لَا تَجُوزُ عَنْكَ وَلَا تَجُوزُ عَنِّي؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ لِأَنَّكَ تَشُكُّ وَلَا أَشُكُّ إِنَّمَا «نَهَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ الْمُصْفَرَةِ وَالْمُسْتَأْصَلَةِ قَرْنُهَا مِنْ أَصْلِهَا وَالْبَخْقَاءِ الَّتِي بَخَقَتْ عَيْنُهَا وَالْمُشَيِّعَةِ الَّتِي لَا تَتْبَعُ الْغَنَمَ عَرَجًا وَضَعْفًا وَالْكَسْرَاءِ الْكَسِيرَةِ»

✧ I came to ʿUtbah b. ʿAbd al-Sulamī, the companion of the Messenger of God ﷺ, and said, 'O Abū al-Walīd, I went out seeking sacrificial animals and found only one with broken teeth, and I disliked it. What do you say?' He said, 'Why did you not bring it to me to sacrifice?' I said, 'Glory be to God, it is not valid from you or from me?' He said, 'Yes, because you doubt and I do not doubt. The Messenger of God ﷺ only forbade the yellow one, the one whose horn is uprooted from its base, the one whose eye is sunken, the one that lags behind the flock due to lameness and weakness, and the broken one.'
