✧ “Indeed this world has announced its departure and turned away, and nothing of it remains except a remnant like the dregs of a vessel. You are in an abode from which you will depart, so move with the best of what is present with you. I have seen myself as the seventh of seven with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and we had no food to eat except tree leaves until the corners of our mouths became sore.” Qurra said: “And I found a cloak.” Abū Naʿāma said: “I picked up a cloak and tore it in two halves. I wore one half and gave Saʿd the other half. None of those seven today is except over one of the garrison towns. The rulers after me will surely be tested. By Allah, no prophethood ever occurred except that it was transformed until it became kingship and tyranny. It has been mentioned to me”—Qurra said: “that a stone”—and Abū Naʿāma said: “that a sheet is cast from the edge of Hell and falls to its bottom.” Qurra said: “for seventy autumns,” and Abū Naʿāma said: “seventy autumns, and it will surely be filled. Between the two panels of the gates of Paradise is a journey of forty days, and a day will come upon the gates of Paradise when there is no gate except that it is packed. I seek refuge in Allah from being great in my own estimation and small with Allah.”
