✧ “To proceed: Indeed this world has announced its departure and turned away, and nothing of it remains except a remnant like the dregs of a vessel that its owner pours out. You will move from it to an abode that has no cessation, so move with the best of what is present with you. It has been mentioned to us that a stone is thrown from the edge of Hell and falls for seventy years without reaching its bottom. By Allah, it will surely be filled. Are you astonished? It has been mentioned to us that between two panels of the panels of Paradise is a journey of forty years, and a day will surely come upon it when it is packed with crowding. I have seen myself as the seventh of seven with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when we had no food except tree leaves until the corners of our mouths became sore. I picked up a cloak and split it between myself and Saʿd b. Abī Waqqāṣ, the horseman of Islam. I wrapped myself in half of it. None of us has risen this morning alive except that he has become a commander of one of the garrison towns. I seek refuge in Allah from being great in my own estimation and small with Allah. No prophethood ever abided except that it was transformed until its outcome became kingship. You will soon test or be tried by the rulers after us.”
