حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّائِغُ الْمَكِّيُّ وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْخَلَّالُ الْمَكِّيُّ وَالْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ وَعَبْدَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ قَالُوا ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ الْعَدَنِيُّ ثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَاتِمٍ عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ قَالَ
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «تَمَثَّلَتْ لِيَ الْحِيرَةُ كَأَنْيَابِ الْكِلَابِ وإنَّكُمْ سَتَفْتَحُونَها» فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هَبْ لِي بِنْتَ بُقَيْلَةَ فَقَالَ «هِيَ لَكَ فَأَعْطُوهُ إِيَّاهَا» فَجَاءَ أَخُوهَا فَقَالَ «تَبِيعُهَا؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَاحْتَكِمْ مَا شِئْتَ» قَالَ بِأَلْفِ دِرْهَمٍ قَالَ «قَدْ أَخَذْتُهَا بِأَلْفٍ» قَالُوا لَوْ قُلْتَ ثَلَاثِينَ أَلْفًا قَالَ «وَهَلْ عَدَدٌ أَكْبَرُ مِنْ أَلْفٍ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Al-Ḥīrah was shown to me like the fangs of dogs, and you will conquer it.” A man stood up and said: “O Messenger of Allah, grant me the daughter of Buqaylah.” He said: “She is yours.” So they gave her to him. Then her brother came and he said: “Will you sell her?” He said: “Yes.” He said: “Name whatever price you wish.” He said: “For a thousand dirhams.” He said: “I have taken her for a thousand.” They said: “If only you had said thirty thousand.” He said: “Is there a number greater than a thousand?”
