حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ الْمَوْصِلِيُّ ثَنَا الْمُعَافَى بْنُ عِمْرَانَ ثَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى بْنُ أَبِي الْمُسَاوِرِ عَنْ عَامِرٍ الشَّعْبِيِّ قَالَ قَدِمَ عَدِيُّ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ الْكُوفَةَ فَأَتَيْتُهُ فِي نَاسٍ مِنْ عُلَمَاءِ الْكُوفَةِ وَالْكِتَابِ فَقُلْنَا
حَدِّثْنَا حَدِيثًا سَمِعْتَهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ نَعَمْ أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «يَا عَدِيَّ بْنَ حَاتِمٍ أَسْلِمْ تَسْلَمْ» قُلْتُ وَمَا الْإِسْلَامُ؟ قَالَ «تَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إلَّا اللهُ وَتَشْهَدُ أَنِّي رَسُولُ اللهِ وَتُؤْمِنُ بِالْأَقْدَارِ كُلِّهَا خَيْرِهَا وَشَرِّهَا حُلْوِهَا وَمُرِّهَا»

✧ “Tell us a hadith you heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.” He said: “Yes. I came to the Prophet ﷺ and he said: ‘O ʿAdī b. Ḥātim, submit and you will be safe.’ I said: ‘What is Islam?’ He said: ‘Testify that there is no god but Allah, and testify that I am the Messenger of Allah, and believe in the divine decrees, all of them: their good and their evil, their sweet and their bitter.’”
