حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ هَارُونَ ثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الضَّبِّيُّ ثَنَا مَنْصُورُ بْنُ أَبِي الْأَسْوَدِ عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ قَالَ
قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَرَأَيْتَ قَوْلَهُ {الْخَيْطُ الْأَبْيَضُ مِنَ الْخَيْطِ الْأَسْوَدِ} أَهُمَا الْخَيْطَانِ؟ فَتَبَسَّمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «لَا وَلَكِنَّهُ بَيَاضُ النَّهَارِ وسَوَادُ اللَّيْلِ»

✧ I said: O Messenger of God, what do you think of His saying: “the white thread from the black thread”—are they two threads? The Messenger of God ﷺ smiled and said: “No, but it is the whiteness of day and the blackness of night.”
