✧ The delegation of ʿAbd al-Qays came to the Prophet ﷺ. When they wanted to leave, they said, 'You have memorized everything you heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so ask him about nabidh.' So they came to him and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, we are in a land with bad water that does not suit us except with drink.' He said, 'What is your drink?' They said, 'Nabidh.' He said, 'In what do you drink it?' They said, 'In naqir (a hollowed-out palm trunk).' He said, 'Do not drink in naqir.' They said, 'By Allah, our people will not agree with us on this.' So they returned and asked him, and he told them the same. Then they came again, and he said, 'Do not drink in naqir, lest one of you strikes a blow from which he remains lame until the Day of Resurrection.' They laughed. He said, 'What are you laughing about?' They said, 'O Messenger of Allah, by Him who sent you with the truth, we drank in a naqir of ours, and some of us rose against others, and one struck a blow from which he is lame until the Day of Resurrection.'
