حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ ثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ
أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ قَيْسٍ كَانَ لَهُ رِبًا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ وَكَانَ يَمْنَعُهُ ذَلِكَ الرِّبَا مِنَ الْإِسْلَامِ حَتَّى يَأْخُذَهُ ثُمَّ يُسْلِمَ فَجَاءَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِأُحُدٍ فَقَالَ لِقَوْمِهِ أَيْنَ سَعْدُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ؟ فَقَالُوا هُوَ بِأُحُدٍ فَقَالَ أَيْنَ فُلَانٌ؟ فَقَالُوا بِأُحُدٍ فَسَأَلَ عَنْ قَوْمِهِ؟ قَالُوا هُمْ بِأُحُدٍ فَأَخَذَ سَيْفَهُ وَرُمْحَهُ وَلَبِسَ لَأْمَتَهُ ثُمَّ أَتَى أُحُدًا فَلَمَّا رَآهُ الْمُسْلِمُونَ قَالُوا إِلَيْكَ عَنَّا يَا عَمْرُو قَالَ إِنِّي قَدْ آمَنْتُ فَحَمَلَ فَقَاتَلَ حَتَّى قُتِلَ فَحُمِلَ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ جَرِيحًا فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ سَعْدُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ وَقَالَ لِأَخِيهِ نَادِهِ جِئْتَ غَضِبًا لِلَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ» فَمَاتَ فَدَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ وَلَمْ يُصَلِّ قَطُّ

✧ ʿAmr b. Qays had [claims to] usury from the pre-Islamic period, and that usury prevented him from embracing Islam until he could collect it; then he would become Muslim. One day he came while the Messenger of God ﷺ was at Uhud. He said to his people, "Where is Saʿd b. Muʿadh?" They said, "He is at Uhud." He said, "Where is so-and-so?" They said, "At Uhud." He asked about his people, and they said, "They are at Uhud." So he took his sword and spear, put on his armor, and went to Uhud. When the Muslims saw him, they said, "Away from us, O ʿAmr!" He said, "I have believed." Then he charged and fought until he was killed. He was carried to his family wounded. Saʿd b. Muʿadh entered upon him and said to his brother, "Call out to him: Did you come angry for God and His Messenger?" He said, "Yes." Then he died and entered Paradise without ever having prayed.
