حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ السَّدُوسِيُّ ثَنَا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ثَنَا قَيْسُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ يُقَالُ لَهُ عَمْرُو بْنُ حَنَّةَ وَكَانَ يَرْقِي مِنَ الْحَيَّةِ فَقَالَ

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّكَ نَهَيْتَ عَنِ الرُّقَى وَأَنَا أَرْقِي مِنَ الْحَيَّةِ قَالَ «فَقُصَّهَا عَلَيَّ» فَقَصَصْتُهَا عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ «لَا بَأْسَ بِهَذِهِ هَذِهِ مَوَاثِيقُ» قَالَ وَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ وَكَانَ يَرقِي مِنَ الْعَقْرَبِ فَقَالَ «مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ أَنْ يَنْفَعَ أَخَاهُ فَلْيَفْعَلْ»

✧ O Messenger of God, you forbade incantations, but I use incantations for snakebite. He said: "Recite them to me." So I recited them to him, and he said: "There is no harm in these; these are covenants." He said: Then a man from the Ansar came who used incantations for scorpion stings, and he said: "Whoever is able to benefit his brother, let him do so."
