✧ We were sitting around the Messenger of God ﷺ in his mosque in Madinah when Gabriel ﷺ came to him with revelation. He covered himself with his cloak and remained for a long time until he was relieved and uncovered his cloak. There he was, sweating profusely, holding something in his hand. He said, "Which of you knows what comes out of date palms?" The Ansar said, "We do, O Messenger of God, may our fathers and mothers be your ransom. Nothing comes out of date palms but we know it; we are people of date palms." Then he opened his hand, and there were date pits in it. He said, "What is this?" They said, "These are date pits, O Messenger of God." He said, "Pits of what?" They said, "Pits of a year." He said, "You have spoken truly. Gabriel ﷺ came to you to oversee your religion. You will surely follow the ways of those before you, step by step, and you will take as they took: if a span, then a span; if a cubit, then a cubit; if a fathom, then a fathom, so much so that if they entered a lizard's hole, you would enter it. Except that the Children of Israel split concerning Moses into seventy sects, all of them astray except one sect: Islam and their community. Then they split concerning Jesus, son of Mary, into seventy-one sects, all astray except one: Islam and their community. Then you will be upon seventy-two sects, all in the Fire except one: Islam and their community."
