حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَسْوَدِ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ قَالَ
لَمَّا فَتَحَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ خَيْبَرَ بَعَثَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ رَوَاحَةَ لِيُقَاسِمَ الْيَهُودَ فَلَمَّا قَدِمَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَجَعَلُوا يُهْدُونَ لَهُ مِنَ الطَّعَامِ فَكَرِهَ أَنْ يُصِيبَ مِنْهُمْ شَيْئًا وَقَالَ إِنَّمَا بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَدْلًا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَكُمْ فَلَا أَرَبَ لِي فِي هَدِيَّتِكُمْ فَخَرَصَ النَّخْلَ فَلَمَّا أَقَامَ الْخَرْصَ خَيَّرَهُمْ عَبْدُ اللهِ فَقَالَ إِنْ شِئْتُمْ ضَمِنْتُ لَكُمْ نَصِيبَكُمْ وَقُمْتُ عَلَيْهِ وَإِنْ شِئْتُمْ ضَمِنْتُمْ لَنَا نَصِيبَنَا وَقُمْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ فَاخْتَارُوا أَنْ يَضْمَنُوا وَيَقُومُوا عَلَيْهِ وَقَالُوا يَا ابْنَ رَوَاحَةَ هَذَا الَّذِي تَعْرِضُونَ عَلَيْنَا وَتَعْمَلُونَ بِهِ الَّذِي تَقُومُ بِهِ السَّمَاوَاتُ وَالْأَرْضُ وَإِنَّمَا يَقُومَانِ بِالْحَقِّ وَكَانَتْ خَيْبَرُ لِمَنْ شَهِدَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةَ لَمْ يَشْرَكْهُمْ فِيهَا أَحَدٌ وَلَمْ يَتَخَلَّفْ عَنْهَا أَحَدٌ مِنْهُمْ وَلَمْ يَشْهَدْهَا أَحَدٌ غَيْرُهُمْ وَلَمْ يَأْذَنْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِأَحَدٍ تَخَلَّفَ عَنْ مَخْرَجِهِ إِلَى الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ فِي شُهُودِ خَيْبَرَ

✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ conquered Khaybar, he sent ʿAbd Allah b. Rawahah to divide the fruit with the Jews. When he came to them, they began offering him gifts of food, and he disliked to take anything from them. He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ only sent me to act justly between him and you, so I have no need for your gift." Then he assessed the palm trees. When he completed the assessment, ʿAbd Allah gave them a choice. He said, "If you wish, I will guarantee your share and take charge of it, and if you wish, you will guarantee our share and take charge of it." They chose to guarantee it and take charge of it. They said, "O Ibn Rawahah, this that you offer us and act upon is what upholds the heavens and the earth; they are only upheld by truth." Khaybar belonged to those who were present at Hudaybiyyah; no one else shared in it, none of them stayed behind from it, no one other than them attended it, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not permit anyone who had stayed behind from his departure to Hudaybiyyah to be present at Khaybar.
