حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ هَارُونَ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْمُسَيَّبِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُلَيْحٍ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ فِي فَتْحِ خَيْبَرَ قَالَ
وَبَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ رَوَاحَةَ لِيُقَاسِمَ الْيَهُودَ ثَمَرَهَا فَلَمَّا قَدِمَ عَلَيْهِمْ جَعَلُوا يُهْدُونَ لَهُ مِنَ الطَّعَامِ وَيُكَلِّمُونَهُ وَجَمَعُوا لَهُ حُلِيًّا مِنْ حُلِيِّ نِسَائِهِمْ فَقَالُوا هَذَا لَكَ وَتَخَفَّفْ عَنَّا وَتَجَاوَزْ فَقَالَ ابْنُ رَوَاحَةَ يَا مَعْشَرَ يَهُودَ إِنَّكُمْ وَاللهِ لَأَبْغَضُ النَّاسِ إِلَيَّ إِنَّمَا بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَدْلًا بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَهُ فَلَا أَرَبَ لِي فِي دُنْيَاكُمْ وَلَنْ أَحِيفَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَإِنَّمَا عَرَضْتُمْ عَلَيَّ السُّحْتَ وَإِنَّا لَا نَأْكُلُهُ فَخَرَصَ النَّخْلَ فَلَمَّا أَقَامَ الْخَرْصَ خَيَّرَهُمْ فَقَالَ إِنْ شِئْتُمْ ضَمِنْتُ لَكُمْ نَصِيبَكُمْ وَإِنْ شِئْتُمْ ضَمِنْتُمْ لَنَا نَصِيبِنَا وَقُمْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ فَاخْتَارُوا أَنْ يَضْمَنُوا وَيَقُومُوا عَلَيْهِ وَقَالُوا يَا ابْنَ رَوَاحَةَ هَذَا الَّذِي تَعْمَلُونَ بِهِ بِهِ تَقُومُ السَّمَاوَاتُ وَالْأَرْضُ وَإِنَّمَا يَقُومَانِ بِالْحَقِّ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent ʿAbd Allah b. Rawahah to divide the fruit with the Jews. When he came to them, they began offering him gifts of food and speaking to him, and they gathered for him jewelry from their women's jewelry. They said, "This is for you, and be lenient with us and overlook." Ibn Rawahah said, "O company of Jews, by Allah, you are the most hateful of people to me. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ only sent me to act justly between you and him, so I have no need for your worldly goods, and I will not wrong you. You have only offered me what is unlawful (suht), and we do not consume it." Then he assessed the palm trees. When he completed the assessment, he gave them a choice. He said, "If you wish, I will guarantee your share, and if you wish, you will guarantee our share and take charge of it." They chose to guarantee it and take charge of it. They said, "O Ibn Rawahah, this that you act upon is what upholds the heavens and the earth; they are only upheld by truth."
