حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ وَأَبُو حَنِيفَةَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَنِيفَةَ الْوَاسِطِيُّ قَالَا ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْمِقْدَامِ الْعِجْلِيُّ ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ وَاقِدٍ الصَّفَّارُ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ ذَكْوَانَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ
إِنَّا لَقُعُودٌ بِفِنَاءِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِذْ مَرَّتِ امْرَأَةٌ فَقَالَ بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ هَذِهِ ابْنَةُ مُحَمَّدٍ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ إِنَّ مَثَلَ مُحَمَّدٍ فِي بَنِي هَاشِمٍ مَثَلُ الرَّيْحَانَةِ فِي وَسَطِ النَّتْنِ فَانْطَلَقْتِ الْمَرْأَةُ فَأَخْبَرْتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَجَاءَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُعْرَفُ فِي وَجْهِهِ الْغَضَبُ حَتَّى قَامَ عَلَى الْقَوْمِ فَقَالَ «مَا بَالُ أَقْوَالٍ تَبْلُغُنِي عَنْ أَقْوَامٍ إِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ سَبْعًا فَاخْتَارَ الْعُلْيَا مِنْهَا فَسَكَنَهَا وَأَسْكَنَ سَمَاوَاتِهِ مَنْ شَاءَ مِنْ خَلْقِهِ وَخَلَقَ الْأَرْضَ سَبْعًا فَاخْتَارَ الْعُلْيَا مِنْهَا فَأَسْكَنَهَا مَنْ شَاءَ مِنْ خَلْقِهِ وَخَلَقَ الْخَلْقَ فَاخْتَارَ مِنَ الْخَلْقِ بَنِي آدَمَ وَاخْتَارَ مِنْ بَنِي آدَمَ الْعَرَبَ وَاخْتَارَ مِنَ الْعَرَبِ مُضَرَ وَاخْتَارَ مِنْ مُضَرَ قُرَيْشًا وَاخْتَارَ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ وَاخْتَارَنِي مِنْ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ فَأَنَا مِنْ خِيَارٍ إِلَى خِيَارٍ فَمَنْ أَحَبَّ الْعَرَبَ فَبِحُبِّي أَحَبَّهُمْ وَمَنْ أَبْغَضَ الْعَرَبَ فَبِبُغْضِي أَبْغَضَهُمْ»

✧ While we were sitting in the courtyard of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, a woman passed by. Some of the people said, “This is the daughter of Muhammad.” A man said, “Indeed the likeness of Muhammad among Banu Hashim is that of a fragrant herb in the midst of stench.” The woman went and informed the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ came, anger recognizable in his face, until he stood over the people and said: “What is the matter with statements that reach me from certain people? Indeed Allah, may He be exalted, created the heavens and the earth in seven (layers). He chose the highest of them and dwelt in it, and He settled whomever He willed of His creation in His heavens. He created the earth in seven (layers) and chose the highest of them, and He settled whomever He willed of His creation in it. He created the creation and chose from the creation the children of Adam, and chose from the children of Adam the Arabs, and chose from the Arabs Mudar, and chose from Mudar Quraysh, and chose from Quraysh Banu Hashim, and chose me from Banu Hashim. I am from the best to the best. So whoever loves the Arabs, it is out of love for me that he loves them, and whoever hates the Arabs, it is out of hatred for me that he hates them.”
