حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو شُعَيْبٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْبَابْلُتِّيُّ ثنا أَيُّوبُ بْنُ نَهِيكٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَطَاءً يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ
سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ وَعَادَ أَبَا سَلَمَةَ وَهُوَ وَجِعٌ فَسَمِعَ قَوْلَ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ وَهِيَ تَبْكِي فَنَكَلَ نَبِيُّ اللهِ عَنِ الدُّخُولِ حِينَ سَمِعَهَا تَبْكِيهِ بِكِتَابِ اللهِ تَقُولُ {وَجَاءَتْ سَكْرَةُ الْمَوْتِ بِالْحَقِّ ذَلِكَ مَا كُنْتَ مِنْهُ تَحِيدُ} فَدَخَلَ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ ثُمَّ قَالَ «أَخْلَفَ اللهُ عَلَيْكِ يَا أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ» فَلَمَّا خَرَجَ وَمَعَهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ قَالَ لَهُ رَأَيْتُكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ كَرِهْتَ الدُّخُولَ لِأَنَّهُمْ يَنُوحُونَ قَالَ «لَسْتُ أَدْخُلُ دَارًا فِيهَا نَوْحٌ وَلَا كَلْبٌ أَسْوَدُ»

✧ I heard the Prophet ﷺ say when he visited Abu Salamah while he was ill, and he heard the words of Umm Salamah while she was weeping. The Prophet of God refrained from entering when he heard her weeping over him with the Book of God, saying: “And the throes of death will come with the truth; that is what you used to turn away from.” Then he entered, greeted, and said, “May God compensate you, O Umm Salamah.” When he went out with Abu Bakr, Abu Bakr said to him, “I saw you, O Messenger of God, disliking to enter because they are wailing.” He said, “I do not enter a house in which there is wailing or a black dog.”
