حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ السَّدُوسِيُّ ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ قَالَ قَالَ

أَبُو رِفَاعَةَ الْعَدَوِيُّ انْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَخْطُبُ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ رَجُلٌ غَرِيبٌ جَاءَ يَسْأَلُ عَنْ دِينِهِ لَا يَدْرِي مَا دِينُهُ؟ قَالَ فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَتَرَكَ خُطْبَتَهُ ثُمَّ أَتَى بِكُرْسِيٍّ خِلْتُ قَوَائِمَهُ حَدِيدًا فَصَعِدَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَجَعَلَ يُعَلِّمُنِي مِمَّا عَلَّمَهُ اللهُ ثُمَّ أَتَى خُطْبَتَهُ فَأَتَمَّهَا

✧ Abu Rifa'ah al-Adawi: I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was delivering a sermon. I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, a stranger has come asking about his religion; he does not know what his religion is.' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and left his sermon, then a chair was brought whose legs I thought were iron. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ climbed it and began teaching me from what Allah had taught him. Then he returned to his sermon and completed it.
